THE 14TH MEETING (VIRTUAL) OF THE ADVISORY BOARD FOR WOMEN,
PEACE AND SECURITY IN THE GREAT LAKES REGION
1. OBJECTIVE OF THE ADVISORY BOARD
The primary objective of the Advisory Board is to support gender mainstreaming
and women’s effective participation by ensuring the views of women and girls are
taken into consideration and integrated into wider efforts to promote peace,
security, and economic development in the Great Lakes region.
It offers a platform for information sharing, policy dialogue opportunities and
avenues to mainstream gender and women’s rights perspectives in programs and
initiatives in strengthening partnership.
The 9th High-Level Meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM) of the
PSC-Framework, held in Kampala (Republic of Uganda) on 8 October 2018,
welcomed the address by the women representative of the Board and encouraged
Member States to continue to expend every effort to achieve full gender parity,
and in the interim, ensure a minimum of 30% representation of women in peace
and political processes within five years by 2023
