Code of Conduct for Public Transport

Key Success in Dealing with Sexual Harassment in the Public Transport:
1. Legal Notice No.161 of 2003 provides that all PSV SACCOs should have a
code of conduct which all operators should abide by. (The Code of Conduct
being launched today)
2. Existence of the Sexual Offenses Act, 2006 – this Act explains sexual
offences and makes ways to prevent and protect all persons from illegal
sexual acts.
3. National Policy on Gender Development 2019,
4. Integrated National Transport Policy 2009.
5. Existence of National Guidelines on the Management of Sexual Violence
(2014) – this is a guiding policy framework on procedures and services for
management of survivors of sexual violence and explicitly recognizes
sexual violence as a serious human rights and health issue.
6. Existence of National Policy on Prevention and Response to GBV,2014.
7. Existence of gender desks in police stations to handle the gender-based
violence (GBV) cases.
